About Our Artists

The quality of pottery emerging from the studio has steadily improved as founding and new members develop their individual skills and styles. Members show their work widely in art galleries and in and craft shows, sometimes related to other guilds and organizations to which they belong.

Joyce Wheatley has had a distinguished pottery career spanning over forty years and is the winner of numerous awards, including Juror's choice, Arts Burlington Kaleidoscope 2002 and Fusion Board Chair Purchase Award as well as the Henry Goodman Best in Show, Fusion Fireworks 2003. Cheryl Wyre, a well-known Toronto potter, was awarded Honorable Mention, Burlington Kaleidoscope 2002.

Other members are graduates of training programs in ceramics or fine arts, and have attended summer courses and /or a wide range of workshops with pottery masters.

Work Samples

In a world of GI Joe dolls, Sid & Marty Kroft, and homemade go-karts, Jeannie grew up in Toronto with an offbeat perspective that for most only lingers briefly during childhood. As a young adult, Jeannie continued her unique journey by working with special needs children in summer programs. She developed a connection with non-verbal kids, and used the materials & processes of art to facilitate communication

While studying at Sheridan College, the Ontario College of Art, and the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Jeannie developed her own language using figurative ceramic sculpture as the medium.

Jeannie is creating her own urban mythology populated by fictional creatures and humans. Her sculptures inspire emotion without demanding an intellectual analysis, while the simplicity of the forms allows the viewer to discover their own personal interpretation.
