About Our Artists

The quality of pottery emerging from the studio has steadily improved as founding and new members develop their individual skills and styles. Members show their work widely in art galleries and in and craft shows, sometimes related to other guilds and organizations to which they belong.

Joyce Wheatley has had a distinguished pottery career spanning over forty years and is the winner of numerous awards, including Juror's choice, Arts Burlington Kaleidoscope 2002 and Fusion Board Chair Purchase Award as well as the Henry Goodman Best in Show, Fusion Fireworks 2003. Cheryl Wyre, a well-known Toronto potter, was awarded Honorable Mention, Burlington Kaleidoscope 2002.

Other members are graduates of training programs in ceramics or fine arts, and have attended summer courses and /or a wide range of workshops with pottery masters.

Work Samples

Over the years I have experimented with many art forms; creative stitching, quilting and painting. I have always enjoyed the creative process and working with my hands. Pottery is my newest passion and I am enjoying the challenge of trying to master this art form.

My work with clay began by taking pottery classes and every crazy piece I made I loved. Now as a member of Woodlawn Studio I am working to improve my skills and only keeping work that I am proud to put my name on.

Working with clay is a constant learning process from improving basic throwing skills, to learning techniques about glazing and firing, and continuing to developing a style all your own. Every day I work with clay I learn something new.
